Simulating Waves in the Upper Solar Atmosphere with Surya: a Well-balanced High-order Finite Volume Code

چکیده

We consider propagation of waves in a stratified non-isothermal magnetic atmosphere. The situation of interest corresponds to waves in the outer solar (chromosphere and corona) and other stellar atmospheres. The waves are simulated by using a high-resolution, well-balanced finite volume based massively parallel code termed SURYA. Numerical experiments in both two and three space dimensions involving realistic temperature distributions, driving forces and magnetic field configurations are described. Diverse phenomena like mode conversion, wave acceleration at the transition layer and driving dependent wave dynamics are observed. We obtain evidence for the presence of coronal Alfvén waves in some three dimensional configurations. Although some of the incident wave energy is transmitted into the corona, a large proportion of it is accumulated in the chromosphere providing a possible mechanism for chromospheric heating.

Robust finite volume schemes for simulating waves in the solar atmosphere

We present well-balanced high-resolution finite volume schemes for simulating waves in the outer solar atmosphere. The schemes approximate the stratified MHD equations with an upwind discretization of the Godunov-Powell source term and a locally hydrostatic pressure reconstruction that preserves discrete steady states. The paper summarizes recent articles [4, 5, 6].

Solution of propagation of acoustic-gravity waves in the atmosphere using finite difference method of order two

Investigating waves propagation’s equation in the atmosphere is one of the important and widely used issues in various sciences, which has attracted many researchers. A type of propagating waves is an acoustic-gravity wave. These type of waves have a lot of stationarity properties and can be propagate to a high altitude in the atmosphere. The equation of acoustic-gravity wave propagation is a h...

Fractional order Adaptive Terminal Sliding Mode Controller Design for MPPT in a Solar Cell under Normal and Partial Shading Condition

In this paper, by combining fractional calculus and sliding mode control theory, a new fractional order adaptive terminal sliding mode controller is proposed for the maximum power point tracking in a solar cell. To find the maximum power point, the incremental conductance method has been used. First, a fractional order terminal sliding mode controller is designed in which the control law depend...

A Finite Element Model for Simulating Flow around a Well with Helically Symmetric Perforations

In a perforated well, fluids enter the wellbore through array of perforation tunnels. These perforations are typically distributed in a helical pattern around the wellbore. Available numerical models to simulate production flow into cased-and-perforated vertical wells have complicated boundary conditions or suffer from high computational costs. This paper presents a simple and at the same time ...
